Is StayOs free to use?
Yes. Searching, messaging and listing are free. Nobody pays brokerage, whether you’re renting or listing.
Can I list my room if I'm a tenant, not the owner?
Yes, that’s what move-out listings are for. List your room or the whole flat to find someone to take over. Check with your landlord before you list, since they’ll need to agree to the new tenant.
What does the monthly total include?
The rent plus every monthly charge the lister adds, such as maintenance, a cook’s share or club fees. One-time costs like the deposit or a society move-in fee are shown separately, along with the notice period and lock-in.
How are distances to hospitals and shops worked out?
We look for the nearest hospital, medical store, grocery store, restaurant, mall, police station and fire station within 5 km, using OpenStreetMap, and measure the distance by road. Drive times don’t include traffic.
When do I see the owner’s phone number?
Once they confirm your visit. Until then their number is masked, like +91 98••• •••45, and you talk through StayOs messages. Phone numbers typed into chat stay hidden too, until a visit is confirmed.
Who can leave a review?
Only renters whose visit was confirmed and has already happened. They rate the home and the lister separately, so every rating comes from someone who’s been inside.
Can StayOs tell me when a new home comes up?
Yes. Set an alert with an area, a home size and your budget, like a 1 BHK under ₹25K in HSR. Homes that match show up in Saved → Alerts with a New tag, and you can turn on browser notifications.
What happens when my home is rented?
Mark it rented and it leaves search straight away; anyone with an upcoming visit is told. You can relist it later. Listings you don’t update for 30 days expire, so renters only see homes that are really free.
How do I know where the home is?
The owner or tenant pins the building on the map when they list it. You can open the pin in OpenStreetMap and check the street before you visit.
Which cities are you in?
Bengaluru only, for now. Every home on StayOs is in a Bengaluru pincode starting with 560, and listings outside it can’t be published yet. More cities are coming soon.
